An Orange City police affidavit says a late-night confrontation at an apartment complex ended with one man suffering multiple gunshot wounds and another man facing three felony charges.
What the affidavit alleges
Orange City police were dispatched at about 11:17 p.m. on July 24, 2026, to the Reserve at Orange City Apartments, 2500 Junior Street, after a disturbance reportedly escalated into a shooting. An officer wrote that he found a man bleeding near the Dollar General storefront and observed several gunshot wounds.
According to the affidavit, police identified 27-year-old Malik Isaac Brown as the person who fired the shots. Brown was standing near a black Honda Accord at the rear of the building when officers approached, the report states. Two young children identified as Brown's daughters were inside the vehicle.
The affidavit identifies the injured man as Raekwon Angel Gonzalez. A juvenile witness reportedly told police that Gonzalez approached Brown's vehicle aggressively and that Brown then fired toward him. Another witness told investigators that Gonzalez was yelling and advancing toward the vehicle before Brown fired multiple shots. The document says Gonzalez was transported to an HCA hospital in Sanford and was in surgery when the affidavit was prepared.
Police also documented that the children appeared nervous and frightened after the shooting. The affidavit says the Florida Department of Children and Families was notified and planned to open an investigation.
Charges and booking information
Brown was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail at 4:01 a.m. on July 25. The affidavit lists charges of second-degree murder under Florida Statute 782.04(2), a second-degree felony criminal-attempt charge under section 777.04, and child neglect without great bodily harm under section 827.03(2)(d). The county's online booking record lists Brown as in custody and shows no bond on the murder and child-neglect counts.
