NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — The New Smyrna Beach Police Department says it has opened an investigation into allegations involving a New Smyrna Beach High School employee and online communications with a person who represented themselves as a minor.
According to a public statement released by New Smyrna Beach police, school administrators contacted the department on August 7. Detectives then opened an investigation that police describe as active and ongoing.
What police have confirmed
Police said the allegations concern “inappropriate online communications” involving a school employee and an individual who presented themselves as a minor. The department said investigators are examining the circumstances and determining whether any criminal violation occurred.
NSBPD also said the employee was not on the New Smyrna Beach High School campus at any point during the current school year while students were present.
A video connected to the allegations has circulated on social media. Police acknowledged the video and said they understand the concern it may create in the community.
