Temple Terrace Officer Arrested in High-Speed Crash That Killed 6-Year-Old Girl
A Temple Terrace police officer is now facing criminal charges following a devastating crash that claimed the life of a 6-year-old child, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators say 25-year-old Officer Zachary Krug was driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour as he approached the area of North Drive prior to the collision. The crash occurred on April 16 near East Fowler Avenue, when a Nissan Pathfinder carrying a mother and three young children made a U-turn into the path of Krug’s oncoming Ford Explorer.
Troopers determined that excessive speed was a primary factor in the crash. The 6-year-old passenger did not survive her injuries.
Following the incident, an internal review by the Temple Terrace Police Department concluded that Krug’s actions violated department policies, city regulations, and the law. He has since been terminated from his position.
In a public statement, the department expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized that the officer’s actions do not reflect the standards or training expected of its personnel.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to lead the investigation.
